Consistency requires commitment

Worked on my brochure

Time has flown since the last time I updated my blog, and it’s been a while since my last post. I admittedly still need to work on more consistently uploading new content to my website.

So, what have I been up to these days, you might be wondering?

Well, for starters, I discovered that fall is a rather busy season, as just about everybody seems to want their family photos taken at this time of the year. I’m thinking because of the fall colours plus in preparation too for the holiday cards that they will be sending to friends and family. To top this off, work has been busy as well, and balancing time between my photography and my day job is a bit of a juggling act that can sometimes make properly managing content for my website, particularly for my blog, challenging. But I know that is not an excuse.

Meanwhile, another new notch I’ve recently added on my belt is taking promotional corporate photos for businesses in the area. Additionally, I have been developing a small project for work, which I’m hoping to get done soon. I will be sure to share the finished product once I get everything completed.

Additionally, I have recently upgraded my PC, which is essential for efficiently editing photos and videos without constantly getting stuck waiting for the computer to catch up. Another substantial technical improvement was getting installed a wired connection from our Telus Hub router upstairs to our computers downstairs. I just learned a little while ago that my Adobe Creative Suite had been using bandwidth no matter what I was doing. At first, I thought I was just working offline whenever I used Lightroom and Photoshop, but apparently the applications are constantly connected to the cloud, crippling our internet connection. While we remain trapped in the Digital Dark Age, placing the satellite hub router upstairs provided a significant increase in both upload and download speeds compared to what we were experiencing before.

Along the way, I have continued to watch tutorial videos and online classes in order to enhance my knowledge about photography as well as editing photos and videos. Plus, I’ve also been doing some online courses that are related to my job, so there have been times when my head aches — probably because I’ve been working in front of a screen more than eight hours a day.

Now that winter is just around the corner, I have to prepare for the season as well. I have projects lined up and assignments that I want to complete before the year ends, and I will definitely be updating everybody about my progress through my website.

Project with Town of Sundre

I’m motivating myself to do at least one or two posts every month on my blog, and I hope this is the start.

My commitment for this month is to be consistent.
